Painting Black Lives Matter on 16th Street
Pictures from this morning: Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office painted a giant BLACK LIVES MATTER sign in yellow on 16th Street NW, right across the White House and Lafayette park, as a symbol of solitary with the ongoing protests. However, it is important to note this action is being criticized as performative, as Black Lives Matter DC highlighted, many important policy changes in her office have yet to take place. At the same time, religious leaders of all faiths gathered in front of St Johns Episcopal Church, the church at Lafayette Park where the nation saw peaceful protestors being attacked with tear gas a few days ago to clear the area opposite the White House.
